Why the 17" monitor screen is 16 inch instead of 17 inch? I measured the monitor screen, so it was showing 16" instead of 17" , why?

A 17″ monitor is a 17″ monitor. If you purchased a monitor which is 16″, then you own a 16″ monitor. Contact the manufacturer to complain if it was advertised as being a 17″ monitor.
TV’s and Monitor screens are always measured across the diagonal, you may have a 17 inch but a half inch surround around it, making it 16 inch? But I measure across the monitor screen, so it should be 17, never heard of a 16 inch? The smallest I have seen is a 12 inch. If it is a flat screen then you will have to ask the manufacturer? the old crt monitors of 17″ had a viewable screen of 16″ maybe 16.25″ the rest is hidden by the surround
most modern lcd screen say the viewable screen is 17″ if you measure diagonally
if you measure horizontally you will get a lesser measurement
example my 32 ” tv screen is 28.25″ wide diagonally 32″
Are you measuring diagonally? I was discussing TVs the other day and the person I was talking to didn’t know that screen measurements are measured that way.
