My Computer Monitor Is A 17 Inch And The Screen Just Goes To About 3 Inches. What Causes This?

I bought this computer about a year and a half ago. It is a Compaq. The monitor display just started going from full size to about 3 inches tall. U can still see the picture but not very much of it and it looks like it has rolled over onto itself. What causes this and can it be fixed or is it a lost cause?

nowadays, you might as well trash it if you can get a halfway decent deal on a flat panel. or give it to your cousin who’s MIT material to see if he can fix it.
I think you have major trouble with the monitor as you have not said that you made any adjustments to your display,such as went for a higher resolution display because you got a new graphics card or such.So i think it will be cheaper for you to buy a second hand monitor then to get it repaired.
Your Monitor has GOT to be a CRT if its got that problem. Okay, what you need to do is ajust you “Horizontal Positioning”. Some where on your monitor is guna be buttons in which pull up a menu. Search that menu til you find an option that says “Horizontal” of some type. When you enable this option, you set your Screen’s Picture to move from one side of the Monitor, to the other or vise versa.
The problem is your screen is displaying ALL the way to left, or right… which ever…
And its the effect of it over lapping when the tube is displaying off the Screen.
Sorta funny looking isnt it?
If you seem to cant find out how to wrk the Horizontal setting on you monitors menu, their should be a Recall Option ont he Menu as well. It will reset your monitor to factory Settings
Should fix the Problem.
If the problem persits, means your monitor was over magnetized and is about ready to die. If thats the case; Purchase a 15 inch LCD Flat screen for only about 130 bucks or less and never have that problem agian
Do you know how to adjust the screen? Push the menu button on the monitor and you can adjust from there. If this does not work I know for a fact that it would be more economical to buy a new one than to have yours fixed. You might want to check with someone that fixes computers, they may sell you one cheap. eBay is also a good place to look. Good luck.
try adjusting monitor control verticl size if no effect prolly defective monitor replace it
There could be a number of reasons. BUG, VIRIUS,.. but all in all i think U should take it in.

Yes there is a 1.44mm jack on the back of the monitor for audio it is an input. there is no output jack.
