The ratio will be different it will go from 4:3 to 16:9 I believe. You ever go to the movies and then see the same movie at home on a regular tv, and the screen says the film has been formatted to fit this screen. It’s usually a green splash screen. The ratio has changed. Usually on a normally tv, movies shot in 16:9 are chopped at the sides, and a 16:9 that is played back at a 16:9 ratio on a 4:3 tv you will see the black bars at the top and bottom. You see more of the movie but images are actually smaller. Realistically you need a 30-40 inch tv to see the screen the way you want. Target’s has had the best deal on LCD, specifically the olevia. Researched those for awhile and everyone loves them, except that off angle viewing isn’t so great, but besides that they get awesome reviews, also Insignia brand has been getting rave views as well. It was originally a cheaper tv that I would not buy, but the quality must have improved greatly.

I recommend the Dell G2410. It's a 24-inch LED monitor which will work with your iMac (though you need to buy an adapter to connect it). It costs around $300 but has image quality comparable to the $800 Apple LED Cinema Display.

I always recommend watching widescreen if the movie is widescreen. Yes, you can zoom in (some tv models let you) but then you miss part of the image. Movies are shot carefully, like paintings are made. You wouldn't cut off part of a painting just so it would fit a certain picture frame, you'd be missing part of the image, part of the statement. If a movie was shot at a different framing ratio, then the director / cinematographer / art director had a reason for it.
Maybe, if your tv was only 20" it might be worth zooming in just so you can see smaller details, but with a 50" you should just watch it as it was intended…

The VGA port built onto the motherboard is usually disabled when an add-on graphics card has been installed (the one with the two monitor outputs). I doubt you will be able to use that motherboard onboard VGA port.
If you want to drive three monitors independently, the best way to do it is with a new ATI HD5000-series video card– The HD5000-series cards can drive three monitors (two DVI monitors + 1 DisplayPort monitor).
